Island Trade Show Booth Displays

An island booth is the largest, most visible footprint on the trade show floor. Open access on all four sides, hanging signs visible from across the hall, room for demo zones, lounge spaces, and meeting rooms inside the booth itself. The format brands use to make a statement at their biggest shows of the year.

Storm Displays designs and fabricates island booths from 20x20 up through custom larger footprints. Concept design, engineering, fabrication, A/V integration, hanging sign rigging, on-site install handled by one team. Compare with our custom trade show booths in smaller footprints, or browse the full trade show displays lineup to see how island fits alongside our other custom booth solutions.

Open on All Four Sides

An island booth occupies a full block of floor space with aisles on every side. Visitors approach from any direction, which transforms how the booth is designed compared to inline formats.

  • Central tower or signage anchors the booth visually
  • Dedicated zones for demos, meetings, and lounging
  • Hanging signs add overhead branding visible across the hall
  • No backwalls; every angle is a designed front
  • Traffic flows through the booth, not just past it

Format Capabilities

What's Possible at Island Scale

Every element below is standard at the island scale. Most inline booths struggle to fit even one of these. Island gives you room to combine them.

I.

Hanging Signs & Overhead Branding

Visible from across the entire hall. Pulls visitors to your booth before they hit the aisle. Standard at island scale, rare at inline.

II.

Multiple Demo Zones

Dedicated product stations for different segments. Run live demos for several audiences simultaneously without crowding.

III.

Enclosed Meeting Rooms

Private spaces for serious sales conversations off the show floor. Soundproof walls, branded interiors, scheduled visits.

IV.

Lounge & Hospitality Areas

Soft seating, charging stations, refreshment counters. Pulls high-value visitors out of show noise and keeps them engaged.

V.

Architectural Lighting

Programmable lighting on hanging signs, demo zones, and product features. Mood transitions across show hours and events.

VI.

Integrated Backlit Displays

Large-format backlit displays as central feature elements. The strongest visual anchor available in any format.

When Island Makes Sense

Island is the right call when the booth itself is a serious sales tool. Here is how it stacks up against the alternatives we build.

I.
Headline industry show, premium booth assignment Major annual events where your booth is part of the company's marketing positioning for the year
Island Booth Purchase
II.
Need island presence for 1-2 shows only Single major event per year that justifies island scale but does not justify owning the hardware year-round
III.
Booth experience matters more than booth format Product needs hands-on demonstration, touchscreens, immersive content, but a 10x20 or 20x20 footprint covers it
IV.
Standard inline booth with strong brand presence 10x10 or 10x20 footprint, branded structure, professional appearance, no need for 4-sided access

Get Answers for FAQs

What's the difference between an island booth and an inline booth?
An island booth has aisles on all four sides with no neighboring exhibitors touching the booth. An inline booth has neighbors on one or both sides and shares walls with them. Island booths get 360-degree visibility, can include hanging signs above the booth, and use the full footprint without sight-line restrictions from neighbors. Inline booths are bound by show floor sight-line rules that limit backwall placement and height.
What's the minimum size for an island booth?
The minimum island footprint is 20x20 at most shows. Below that size, you typically end up with an inline or corner configuration instead. From the 20x20 starting point, island booths scale to 20x30, 30x30, and larger custom footprints. Tell us your show's floor plan options and we will recommend the right footprint for your goals.
How tall can an island booth be?
Most shows allow island booths up to 20 feet tall, including hanging signs above the booth. Some shows restrict booth height to 16 feet, with hanging signs allowed an additional few feet above that. Specific height rules vary by show; always check the exhibitor manual for your event. We engineer island booths to comply with the show's specific height restrictions while maximizing your visible footprint.
Can island booths be rented instead of purchased?
Yes. Island booth rentals are a strong option when you only need island scale for one or two shows per year, when you are testing a new market, or when long-term hardware ownership does not fit your show calendar. Same custom design quality, no long-term commitment. The rental side covers shipping, install, and teardown as part of the package.
How much lead time does an island booth need?
Island booths typically need significantly more lead time than inline custom booths because of the design complexity, engineering requirements, hanging sign rigging, and A/V integration. Rush production is possible for smaller island footprints, but premium 30x30 and custom larger formats need realistic timelines. Send us your show date as early as possible and we will tell you honestly what is achievable.
Do island booths come with storage and shipping cases?
Yes. Every island booth we build ships in custom-fitted protective crates and cases sized for the specific booth components. Crates protect the booth during freight shipping, drayage, and storage between shows. Most clients store the booth between shows at our facility or at a third-party warehouse near a frequent show city. We coordinate freight, storage logistics, and venue delivery as part of the build.
